Staying ConnectedHave you lost connection to people you love recently due to a painful difference of opinion?

I ask because COVID-19 has created so much division in my families all over the world, even my own. People who once were so supportive of each other are now sitting on opposite sides of the fence.

For many people, their first response to pushback from family members is to send one (or several) emails or text messages because it’s easy to do, but it can get hot and inflammatory very quickly and things can get easily misunderstood.

So, what do you do to preserve those relationships?

Since it’s far better to be connected than disconnected and it’s easy to do, I want to share an approach this week on my blog/vlog I call loving at a safe distance.

If it’s hard for you to remain on an even keel with the people you love even when you disagree, you can still connect to them at the level of the soul.

Find a quiet place and get comfortable, then begin to empty yourself and go into a state you’d usually be in for prayer.

In my case, my Mother and I don’t see eye-to-eye on COVID-19 matters. To stay connected with her, I say to my soul with conscious intention, Dear Soul, please connect me to the soul of my Mother, then I hold the vision of her in my mind.

Then, I ask my soul to tell me when we’re connected. Usually, when my soul says Yes!, I experience a rising in energy and when it’s a No!, I experience a sinking feeling that washes over me. Also, it’s the same feeling I get when I know someone is telling me a lie or asks me to do something I don’t want to do.

If I feel that rise in energy, then I ask, Dear Soul of my Mother, can you hear me? It’s Paul…

As the energy rises, I’ll say something like, Mom, I know we don’t see eye-to-eye on these COVID issues, but I love and honor you and respect your choices. I know you’re doing what you feel is best for you and please know I’m doing what I feel is best and safest for me and my family. I wanted to take a few minutes of my day to connect to you at my heart and let you know that I do love you. Thank you for all of the opportunities you’ve given me to be my Mother and loving me.

At this juncture, share anything that’s a genuine expression of your love for that person. Let go of any need to continue making those arguments at this soul level that separated you in the first place.

The soul is the ultimate expression of unconditional love, and is God within each one of us, so imagine that you’re talking to that person’s highest version of self, the part that knows intimately who they are and vice versa.

I hope you can use this approach to share love with those you care about albeit from a safe distance. The clients I’ve worked with who used this approach noticed a positive shift in the other person they had never seen before.
