Good Tuesday to All,
Wow, I can hardly believe my good fortune! I’m resting at home and I am filled to overflow with joy!
Yesterday I had a lovely 90 minute massage by Wes at the Encinitas Massage Center and then a half hour steam ~ What a combo, really does the body good!
Afterward, I enjoyed a relaxing day at home, doing art and really not doing much of anything at all except resting and eating great food.
Resting has its merits. When I take personal time with Dr. Quiet I can sift out the stress and become present with myself. Since traveling the world my system has become really sensitive to time changes and it takes me a bit longer to re-balance when I get to my destination.
If you are physically active like I am, especially if you’re an athlete, missing out on rest is particularly damaging. You end up missing out on needed physical repair time and injury becomes far more likely.
Taking care to listen to Dr. Quiet becomes even more critical once we accept that the natural connection between the rising and setting of the sun and our sleep cycle is so easily disrupted.
Although I’m in bed by 9 or 9:30pm, I’m still dealing with jet-lag and circadian stress disorder. That is why my rest periods away from people and activities that demand my energy are heaven for me.
As a perpetually creative person, rest allows me to formulate my ideas, their delivery and benefit for others besides just myself. If you simply follow the advice of Dr. Quiet and get to bed by 10:00 P.M. and sleep for a good eight hours each night, you’ll be surprised at how much better you feel overall and how much less stress you feel.

MAT(T)ERS AND FIRES GO TOGETHER
Fire is the center of the flower.
Say what you say!
Do what you do!
Fire loves a mat(t)er
Lightning is the voice of Earth and Heaven –
Never 1
But 2.
When empty and your tummy burns
Yin needs to stoke the fire
Too big and you loose your house.
Harmony keeps things cool.
TAO-TE-zen practice is a flow,
as the water…
Warm, as the sun upon the dew.
Zen is the rake that divides,
and shows
What the fire hides.
Zen is the fire drinking water
Effortlessly.
Practice balancing fire and water in your relationships
And become as zen created.
May you keep yourselves watered in those places where you are hot.
Love and chi,
Paul Chek
